WORDSPACE DECLARES APRIL 2018 THE FIRST DALLAS LIT HOP

The month-long Lit Hop celebration features acclaimed author Walter Mosley and more

(DALLAS, December 2017; source: CultureHype) – Dallas-based literary nonprofit WordSpace is thrilled to announce Dallas Lit Hop, a series of spring events spanning the month of April with two very special events that bookend the month. Dallas Lit Hop kicks off on Saturday, April 7 at Deep Ellum Art Co. with a party that includes spoken word, theatrical, and musical performers. On Sunday, April 29, best-selling author Walter Mosley takes the stage at The Kessler Theater. Throughout the month there will be parties, performances, readings, film programs, kids’ workshops, and panels held in venues across Dallas

“For the past two years, WordSpace has produced the Deep Ellum Lit Hop, a daylong event of readings and performances in one of our favorite Dallas neighborhoods,” said WordSpace board president Charles Dee Mitchell. “For 2018, we decided it is time to go bigger. Events will feature old friends and new collaborators at familiar venues and exciting new spaces.”

To kick off this year’s Lit Hop celebration, Deep Ellum Art Co. will host a party on Saturday, April 7. Local experimental theater company Dead White Zombies will premiere new work alongside appearances by spoken word performers. Starting at 9 p.m., WordSpace and Deep Ellum Art Co. will welcome legendary Dallas performer Mark Griffin to the stage. This classically trained musician-turned-rapper and experimental musician performs as MC 900 Ft. Jesus. This newly opened creative space features a nearly 60-foot bar and both indoor and outdoor performance stages. Beer, cocktails and food trucks will be available. Deep Ellum Art Co. is located at 3200 Commerce St., Dallas, Texas 75226.

“We’re dedicated to the creative and native, so working with WordSpace, an organization supporting the literary arts community, is a perfect fit for us,” said John LaRue, owner at Deep Ellum Art Co. “The Deep Ellum Art Co. team is happy to host the kickoff for Lit Hop month.”

To end Lit Hop with a bang, one of the most versatile and admired writers in America today will be presented during a special event on Sunday, April 29 at The Kessler Theater starting at 8 p.m. Author of more than 43 critically acclaimed books and 2016 Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America, Walter Mosley’s work ranges from literary fiction, science fiction, political monographs and a young adult novel to live, performative social commentary. Kessler Theater is located at 1230 W. Davis St., Dallas, Texas 75208.

“We are honored and excited to host Walter Mosley,” said Mitchell. “Mr. Mosley’s crime novels featuring detective Easy Rawlins have been a staple of American hard-boiled fiction since 1990. His reading and talk epitomizes WordSpace’s commitment to celebrating the diversity of American voices that contribute to both traditional and experimental writing.”
