CHARLIE J. MEMPHIS INTRODUCES WORLD TO SIGNATURE “SWAMP ROCK” STYLE ON NEW EP

The soulful 17-year-old singer-songwriter’s debut “Bloody in the Water” drops Oct. 19

(DALLAS, October 2018; source: CultureHype) - Charlie J. Memphis has chops. The rockabilly-meets- blues rock singer-songwriter may only have one single under his belt, but he’s already worked with some of the best in the Dallas business--including Jaret Reddick, Joshua Ray Walker, Nik Lee, and John Pedigo at Modern Electric Sound Recorders --for his debut EP, entitled “Bloody is the Water.” A self-declared “swamp rocker,” Charlie’s lovable sound is matched only his smooth, country personality--something you’d never expect from the Chicago-born kid. But Memphis is all about defying expectations.

On Friday, Oct. 19, Good Records (1808 Greenville Ave.) will host an EP Release Party for Charlie from 7 to 10 p.m. featuring live performances by the artist alongside Joshua Fleming, Joshua Ray Walker, John Pedigo, and Nathan Mongol Wells. The event will be sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka and Four Bullets Brewery.

“I’m not just another kid with a guitar,” Memphis says. “I’ll be making music for the rest of my life--whether I’m the in the studio, or just playing bars every night.”

One listen to his debut EP, and you’ll see that the former is the much more probable outcome. “Bloody is the Water” takes the upbeat country style fans saw on Memphis’ debut single “Move Along” and imbues it with dark “swamp rock” undertones.

“I have a tendency to write from hurt and from my interest in macabre things in my life,” Memphis says. “I like to take dark messages and deliver them hidden in upbeat tones and mixed messages.”

“This album allowed me to express this interest in multiple sounds and bring them together that is uniquely mine."

That unique sound is a blend of rockabilly and dark blues that’ll enchant country fans old and new. But it’s not all doom and gloom: Memphis’ future plans involve a Christmas song, another EP and a potential tour in summer ‘19.

“Playing music is all that I love,” he says, “and I want to share that with as many people as possible.”

Bloody is the Water” will be available for streaming on Spotify and purchase on iTunes on Friday, Oct. 19. For more information about Charlie J. Memphis, please visit www.charliejmemphis.com.
